Maximilian Ries published his paper on “Extensive CGMD simulations of atactic PS providing pseudo experimental data to calibrate nonlinear inelastic continuum mechanical constitutive laws” in the renowned journal “Polymers”. This contribution presents a characterization methodology which is an important prerequisite to derive continuum mechanical constitutive laws from particle-based simulations of polymers. We exemplarily use an established coarse-grained model of atactic polystyrene and investigate its mechanical behaviour under various loading conditions. This set of numerical “pseudo experiments” is the basis to calibrate a continuum mechanical constitutive law. Finally, we discuss our findings and sketch our future research activities in this respect.
