Visitors Workshop of Research Training Group GRK 2423 FRASCAL
On March 12th, 2020 the 2nd Visitors Workshop of the GRK 2423 FRASCAL took place at Atzelsberg castle. The Research Training Group welcomed experts from the field of fracture research, namely Gilles Francfort (Department of Mathematics, University 13, Paris, France and visiting professor at the Courant Institute, New York University, New York, USA) and James Kermode (Warwick Centre for Predictive Modelling, University of Warwick, Coventry, UK) who gave exciting lectures and insights into their work. Another highlight was the talk of Franz-Josef Ulm from MIT, Cambridge, which was cut in via video chat from the USA. During the coffee break there was an intensive exchange between the participants. A poster session organized by the doctoral researchers of FRASCAL formed the basis for profound discussions on the topics of the individual research projects. The doctoral students of the Capriccio group presented posters on the subjects of “Using coupled FE-MD simulations to derive interphase properties of polymer nanocomposites” (Dr.-Ing. Maximilian Ries), “Constitutive modelling of viscoelastic-viscoplastic glass polymers based on MD simulations under uniaxial deformation” (Dr.-Ing. Wuyang Zhao) and “Describing particle movements using molecular dynamics and continuum mechanical approaches” (Christof Bauer (M. Sc.)). At the end of the workshop, all participants were invited to a conference dinner, where, besides culinary delights, interesting technical discussions took place.
