The 2nd Capriccio Special Seminar was initiated by the talk given by Sylvain Patinet on Thursday, April 26th. During the talk “Numerical modeling of plasticity in amorphous solids”, Sylvain presented a method encoding the global plastic activity in glasses using local yield stresses [1]. Using this method, he discussed the physical origin of many plastic behaviors in glasses, such as mechanical rejuvenation [2], the Bauschinger effect [3], and long-range elastic interactions [4], etc. The talk ended with fruitful discussions and exchanges. We would like to express our many thanks to Sylvain for sharing is highly interesting research activities!

We are looking forward to welcoming you to our next talk on Thursday, May 2nd at 4:00 pm CEST. Michael Falk from Johns Hopkins Whiting School of Engineering is going to give a talk on “Toward predicting mechanical response and failure in additively manufactured metallic glass parts”.
