Visit to the Annual Meeting of the GAMM 2024
From 18th to 22th of March 2024, Sebastian Pfaller and Lukas Laubert both visited the 94th Annual Meeting of the International Association of Applied Mathematics and Mechanics (GAMM) at Otto-von-Guericke-Universität Magdeburg (OVGU).
On Tuesday morning, Lukas gave a talk on the “Multistage parameter identification of a finite strain viscoelastic viscoplastic material model for biobased thermosets”. He presented his recent advances in modeling the mechanical material behavior of a bio-sourced epoxy that has been synthesized by the Institut de Chimie et des Matériaux Paris-Est (ICMPE) within the BIO ART project, which he initiated studying during his master thesis. There, he elaborately discussed the fit-quality of a sophisticated viscoelastic-viscoplastic continuum material model using calibrated parameters to replicate specific experiments. Further, he particularly focused on the split between fitting DMA-TTS derived data as a foundation for only calibrating the viscoelastic parameters as well as, on the other hand, the inverse parameter identification for figuring out the elastic and viscoplastic parameters based on a single cantilever test setup.
Furthermore, on Wednesday evening, Sebastian gave a presentation about the recent findings of Maximilian Ries, talking about “Molecular dynamics-based investigation of polymer fracture”. After giving an overview of the simulation setup, i.e. a double-notched MD sample under uniaxial tension up to 200% of strain using periodic boundary conditions and a NVT ensemble, he emphasized on Max’ interpretation of the influence of certain parameters. These, respectively, concerened the sample size, temperature, chain length as well as the bond breakage criteria and the pre-crack size. In particular, he discussed the impact of nano-sized particles in the thermoplast, i.e. their filler size and content.
After the successful closing of the presentations and the respective GAMM-sections, fruitful discussions with plenty of researchers led to new interesting research ideas and improvements. In this sense, the Capriccio group is very much looking forward to attending the next GAMM Annual Meeting at Poznan University of Technology in 2025.
