CSS Talk by Eran Bouchbinder
The fourth talk in the 2nd Capriccio Special Seminar was given by Eran Bouchbinder from Weizmann Institute of Science titled “The key roles played by quenched disorder in resolving 3D fracture puzzles.” In his talk, Eran Bouchbinder started with the exciting achievements in 2D dynamical fracture to pose questions about out-of-plane crack surfaces in 3D fracture. By introducing the property of “quenched disorder” in phase-field models, simulations show clear mirror-mist-hackle-macro-branching morphological transitions comparable to experimental observations. He further discussed the physics behind the transitions. The talk was followed by fruitful discussions. We thank Eran sincerely for his highly valuable contribution to our seminar!
We are looking forward to welcoming you to our next talk on Thursday, June 13th at 4:00 pm CEST. There, Franz Bamer from RWTH Aachen will give a talk on “Mechanics of network glasses”. Further information may be found here.
