CSS Talk by Franz Bamer
Franz Bamer was our speaker for the 5th session of the Capriccio Special Seminar 2024. In his talk on “Mechanics of glasses,” he gave a thorough overview of his group’s research efforts tackling the complex behavior of 2D glasses. He explained how they exploit topological flip transformations (Stone-Wales defects) to generate physically sound samples and the resulting stress-strain relation under shear loading [1]. Moreover, his insights into the catastrophic failure behavior of amorphous glasses sparked a vivid discussion. We sincerely thank Franz for his excellent contribution to our seminar series.
