CSS Talk by Frederik van Loock
This talk entitled “Amorphous plasticity at the mesoscale: Development of a shear transformation zone-based numerical model” was given by Frederik van Loock from Eindhoven University of Technology within the 2nd Capriccio Special Seminar. Frederik first gave insights into the shear transformation zone (STZ) theory. He then presented a mesoscopic model based on the STZ theory implemented in the commercial finite element software ABAQUS, which he had published together with Laurence Brassart and Thomas Pardoen [1]. In his presentation, Frederik demonstrated the prediction of the (visco)plastic deformation response of amorphous solids at the nano- and microscale using this model. The talk was followed by a very fruitful and active discussion. We thank Frederik very much for his insightful contribution!
