Sankha Aditya from the Polymers and Soft Materials Research Center at the University of Alabama demonstrated the capabilities of an extended version of the Capriccio method by means of multiscale simulations of various kinds of materials. In his talk “On correctly modeling brittle fracture using coupled molecular dynamics simulations”, he reported on his joint research with Prof. Samit Roy and first discussed elementary aspects, assumptions, and limitations of linear elastic fracture mechanics. After this, he presented some impressive results of coupled fracture simulations of epoxy. He concluded his talk with a summary and outlook to future research activities in this field. We thank Sankha very much for his very insightful contribution to our Capriccio Special Seminar!
