We congratulate Vincent Dötschel for successfully finishing his project thesis titled “Revealing the Interphase in Epoxy-Based Adhesive Joints via Coarse-Grained Molecular Dynamics”. Vincent continued the work of Eva Richter and implemented a numerically stable MD model for the investigation of an epoxy adhesive layer between two aluminum substrates. He thoroughly evaluated the impact of the number and strength of covalent epoxy-Al bonds, non-bonded adherend-adhesive interactions, and substrate surface morphology. Vincent successfully detected the formation of an epoxy interphase region adjacent to the adherends, where the mixing ratio and curing degree differ from the bulk adhesive. Consequently, Vincent’s work will be the foundation for further investigation of adhesive joints.

Knowing Vincent, we expect an outstanding journal publication of his results very soon 😉
